YOU - AN ("Origins Cafe") is a center for traditional cuisine and cultural activity located in Nara, Japan. It caters especially to foreign visitors looking for something more than the usual tourist experience provides. Mayumi Anzai has a long standing interest in promoting and preserving the heritage of her hometown and opened the cafe in 2006 as a base of operation to do just that. The name "Origins" alludes to her hope that the great food and atmosphere visitors will experience here may well propel them into participating in other activities in the Kansai area and beyond. This includes tours led by local guides, language exchange, cultural education, volunteering opportunities, and the possibility of a short home stay in some of Japan's less known areas. Visitors will regularly find locally grown food on the menu and locals leading activities of all sorts in the upstairs studio. Also, homestay in Nara can be introduced and the upstairs tatami rooms nightly to female guests on a donation basis. Please explore the links below and plan to stop in on your next trip to Japan.
